The season opener of the 2017 China GT took off on May 12-13th at Goldenport Auto Park. This is also the first race of the season for team FAW T2M by HubAuto Racing in the GT3 group.
FAW T2M put forward a strong liner-up of drivers for the opener, with Bao Jinlong and Martin Ragginger making up one team and Morris Chen and Hiroki Yoshimoto making up the other.
FAW T2M's #99 car made up of drivers Bao Jinlong and Martin Ragginger was able to rack up an average lap time of 1:03:006 during qualifying. The #99 car started in P2 for the round one race. The other FAW T2M #89 car driven by Morris Chen and Hiroki Yoshimoto started in P9.
The first round started with a nail-biting fight for Turn 1. Despite Bao's endless defense from the competitors from behind, the #99 car dropped to P6. 25mins into the race, the 10-min pit window opens and Bao hands over the steering wheel to his teammate, Ragginger. Ragginger returns to the track in the middle pack and proceeds with the chase. The #99 car was able to fight back to P2 with a 20secs gap with the leader. In the end, Ragginger is able to shorten the gap to under 1-sec and was right on P1's tail, crossing the finish line. The #99 Porsche took home the first trophy of the season in GT3 Class as well as a 2nd place finish for Porsche GT3 Cup Trophy China.
During the round two qualifying session, Ragginger of car #99 broke the circuit's GT3 lap record with the time of 1:01.844, starting the second race from P1. The #89 car of Chen and Yoshimoto started from P5 and was able to finish in P3 in Rnd#2, bringing home another trophy for FAW T2M. Bao and Ragginger finished in P5.
FAW T2M is currently in second place in the team championship standings, with a cumulative score of 48 points. After an impressive performance in the opener, we look forward to seeing what they can do in the next race!
