As the pre-season official test days for the 2017 China GT Championship kicks off this week (April 14/15), heavyweight Spirit Z Racing has confirmed a return to battle in the GT3 class with a Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.
Spirit Z impressed everyone after their performance in last year’s Championship. At the season-opener at Beijing Goldenport Motor Park, Spirit Z snatched pole position and came out overall event winners, controlling the race from start to finish. They also ran third at Round 3 at the Shanghai International Circuit.
One of Spirit Z’s cars, affectionately known as ‘Mr. Godzilla’, has also attracted much attention. As China’s first and only Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, ‘Mr. Godzilla’ is easy to spot among the sea of European branded cars on the racetrack.
In 2017, Spirit Z will continue to use the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3. Their aim is simple: to claim the championship title in the GT3 class of the China GT Championship!
Spirit Z team owner and renowned driver Sun Zheng said that he hopes that with the introduction of a professional technical team, the coming season will continue to exercise the principle of being fair and open. As a driver with extensive international racing experience, he explains that he chose to participate in the China GT to help promote the standing of Chinese drivers, as well as bolstering Nismo’s brand recognition in China via racing in China’s premier racing championship.
